An Introduction to RAIN

In this 2 day workshop, we will explore the practice of RAIN. RAIN Is a useful Acronym to help remember the steps of the practice:

R ecognize what is happening;
A llow the experience to be there, just as it is;
I nvestigate with interest and care;
N urture with self-compassion.

RAIN is an insightful self-inquiry practice that you can bring into your daily life to help you discover the deep patterns of what triggers strong emotional reactions. It is a process of Investigating what you feel physically, mentally, and emotionally and loosening the mind’s stories around those experiences. This practice helps to create the space for you to be with things as they are, to deepen your understanding of what underlies, your fears, anger, and sadness. It can also grant you the freedom to look at the situation differently and choose a response other than what may be dictated by your story. And all the while, helping to cultivate a real sense of understanding and compassion toward your own vulnerability.

October Sound Healing Session with Tibetan Bowls

Tibetan Singing Bowls have been used for centuries for healing and meditation purposes. They create a range of sounds to restore the normal vibratory frequencies of out-of-harmony parts of the body, mind and soul.
In this 60 minute sounbath, which is limited to 8 participants, you will be in closer proximity to the bowls, making the experience all the more powerful!

The vibrations that ring from Tibetan Singing Bowls wake up our ability to hear with more than our ears. We feel the sound Tibetan Singing Bowls as much as we take it in with our ears.

If we accept that sound is vibration and we know that vibration touches every part of our physical being, then we understand that sound is heard not only through our ears but through every cell in our bodies. One reason sound heals on a physical level is because it so deeply touches and transforms us on the emotional and spiritual planes. Sound can redress imbalances on every level of physiologic functioning and can play a positive role in the treatment of virtually any medical disorder.”
Dr. Mitchell Gaynor, director of Medical Oncology and Integrative Medicine, the Cornell Cancer Prevention Center in New York

Monthly Extended Practice-CANCELLED!

The physical postures of yoga, known as asana, are powerful and centering, creating many benefits to those who practice regularly in both mind and body. But did you know they are only 1/8th of the story? There are many more tools available that offer profound results to those who wish to learn them. Come experience and deepen your understanding of the other 7 limbs of yoga through our new extended practices!

Class will involve our typical 75 minutes of asana, followed by 45 minutes of pranayama (breath work), mantra practice, and prompts for self-reflection and meditation. Additionally, excerpts from the yoga sutras, an ancient text that contains mystical and practical wisdom on yoga's 8 limbs, may be incorporated to deepen self-reflection and intention for practice. This class offers the opportunity to go beyond asana and launch oneself into a deeper relationship with the body, breath, mind, and the higher self.

Yoga Nidra

Yoga Nidra

Yoga Nidra is a method of guided relaxation that has a profound effect on the body, mind, and emotions. During the practice, you will lie in a comfortable position where you can remain awake and relaxed. You will be guided through various stages of deeper relaxation as you focus your attention inward.

During Yoga Nidra, you will enter the state between wakefulness and dreaming - a state which we usually only experience as we nod off to sleep. The effect on the mind can be very powerful, because as the mind becomes more relaxed, it also becomes more receptive.

This practice can aid in memory retention, reduce stress, and enhance both your intuition and creativity. It can help you to solve problems, rejuvenate your body and mind, and enhance and balance your energy.

Each Nidra session begins with 20 minutes of gentle movement to prepare the body, mind, and heart for the deeper states of meditative practice.

Core Breath Experiential Workshop

Core Breath Experiential Workshop

Within the demands of everyday life, it is easy to feel disconnected from our core vitality and a sense of groundedness. We are complex physical, emotional and energetic beings, and within us are molecules of emotion that flow and sometimes gather to form blockages. These blockages can lead to chronic tension, physical pain and mental anxiety that may also trigger patterns of behavior and thinking. Core Breath is an experiential workshop that weaves the integration of mindful breath awareness and intention within a process of discovering what may be root causes within patterns of body and mind.

Grounded in the Four Foundations Mindfulness, Mindfulness of Body, Sensation, Thoughts, and Internal Awareness, participants will be guided through different ways of using their breath to tap into the subtle body of emotions, energy, contraction and expansion. In the workshop, we will look into the anatomy of the body, and direct breath to help better articulate expression and voice. Elements of yoga, principles of Butoh, Core Energetics, and intentional improvisations will be woven through the workshop experience. Together, we will mine aspects of the human experience through movement, stillness, and meditation as a mode of reflection into deeper consciousness and inner vibrancy.

Stay Healthy with Yoga and Ayurveda: Winter

Stay Healthy with Yoga and Ayurveda: Winter

Yoga and Ayurveda are ancient sciences of wellness. Yoga focuses on physical exercise, breath and meditation, while Ayurveda focuses on nutrition and daily routines to maintain health and vitality. Practiced together, they help balance our energy, improve strength and flexibility and maintain a focused and calm mind. Practicing Ayurveda and Yoga regularly increases our body awareness and deepens our connection to the seasons and our place on Earth. With each passing season, we experience changes marked by the winter and summer solstices and the vernal and autumnal equinoxes.

As winter approaches, the rains become more frequent and longer. Our daylight hours decrease with just 10 and ½ hours of sunlight on the winter solstice. Whether you enjoy outdoor activities or are more inclined to spend more time indoors, Ayurveda and Yoga can help maintain vitality and balance throughout the wet, cold months ahead.

In this workshop you will:

  • Learn the basics about Ayurveda including an introduction to the three doshas, six tastes and five elements

  • Adjust your eating habits, focusing on soups, stews and winter produce. Share your favorite recipe!

  • Discover simple daily routines and guidelines for staying healthy.

  • Alter your Yoga practice by gently increasing warmth and movement.

  • Discuss ways you can integrate Ayurveda into your life.

    This workshop requires no prior knowledge of Ayurveda. The first two hours will include lecture and discussion followed by a one hour Yoga practice
